Description

A healthy church actively welcomes and accepts people of all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities and helps them feel part of the church. People feel not just welcomed but actually included in the congregation and its activities. There is a deep understanding of biblical hospitality and its importance as we strive to live out our faith.

Guiding Scripture Passages

Leviticus 19:34

“You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”

1 Peter 4:9

Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.

Hebrews 13:2

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Considerations Regarding Your Score

  • What kinds of people would feel welcomed and included in your church?
  • How have you equipped the congregation to have a biblical understanding of hospitality?
  • What ethnic group is likely not to feel welcome?
  • How have you made your space handicapped accessible and friendly?
  • How do people react when someone sits where they usually do?
  • How have you made your worship service easy for strangers to follow and participate?
